A few days ago I had posted free AVG antivirus and antispyware software for Windows PC. Today I post free antivirus and antispyware from Avast! I’ve d used Avast in the past and have to say that I do really like it as a simple cost-free solution for protecting your computer! I love the fact that antivirus and antispyware are now integrated as 1 in most products unlike in the past. Anyways if you don’t have anything protecting your PC now, give it a try!
There are many reasons you may want to create partitions. For me I would use this to create partitions whenever I wanted to double or triple boot a hard drive with Windows xp, Windows 7 and linux. Continue reading
If you own a PC with Windows and need a free but good antivirus and antispyware piece of software, your best bet is AVG Free. AVG has been around for years and is quite good for a free program.
AVG antivirus is for non-commercial use and features the following:
A problem with many laptops these days is that they are fast but are programmed by the manufacturers to slow down under certain conditions. This is called throttling and is done for many reasons such as to keep the heat down or extend battery life.
The problem with throttling such as in my situation with the Dell 1520 laptop which I own is that there will come a point where my 2.2GHZ laptop will throttle down to 1/4 of it’s speed and becomes barely usable to me.
Well there is a terrific free program I use called Throttlestop that prevents throttling from occurring.
You can download Throttlestop below. I highly recommend it if you want to take back control of your laptop’s speed!
Are you looking for a free VPN (Virtual Private Network)?
Well if you’re like me and travel a lot many times you are stuck using a public hotspot such as at a library or Starbucks. The problem with public WiFi is that it’s not very secure. For instance if I sat next to you I could capture all your info through the public WiFi!
What a VPN does is that blocks data and packet sniffing as well as someone else spoofing your computer to get the data from the public WiFi.
Another great use of a VPN is that it allows you to view content that may be blocked from your country such as some Youtube videos, Hulu.com as well as Windows Media Center TV if you live outside the US.
Usually a VPN can cost about $5 a month or more but Anchorfree, a company in California, provides HotSpot Shield, a free VPN that is ad supported. Maybe you do not need a VPN all the time, but only those few times you want to view a region blocked video. Well this is a great choice. I use Anchorfree’s VPN all the time out in public and I’ve never had a problem. Maybe you will find it useful too!
If you’re looking for a great Android emulator for Windows that is totally free, considered one of the best, fast and non-intrusive check out LeapDroid.
LeapDroid is a great Windows-based Android emulator that will allow you to install and play Android apps and games.
No need to turn on your tablet when you can quickly launch Android from your desktop as long as you have Virtualization enabled on your computer!
Why pay for Bluestacks, AMIduOS and other costly Android emulators when you can get one of the best ones out there for free?
If you’re like me you depend on your laptop a lot. Unfortunately sometimes the manufacturers of our laptops tend to do crazy things that drive you crazy!
For me, I own several Dell laptops and one of them loves to throttle its cpu down (lowers it’s clock speed) whenever I use a 65watt power adapter. To me this is just ridiculous to have a computer running at half it’s speed just because you are using a lower wattage power adapter when you NEED it to run at full capacity.
Well there is a free Windows 32bit program that I use called Notebook Hardware Control that can help you take control of your laptop’s hardware such as throttling of the cpu. Besides that it can do MANY MANY other things as well!
Notebook Hardware Control helps you to:
– control the hardware and system power management
– customize the notebook (open source ACPI Control System)
– prolong the battery lifetime
– cool down the system and reduce power consumption
– monitor the hardware to avoid system failure
– make your notebook quiet
Here’s a total internet security program for your PC that includes a very good antivirus and firewall. It’s called Comodo and it’ll work for Windows 7, Windows XP and Windows Vista 32 or 64 bit. Comodo has received many good reviews and you can read a review of it here at PC Mag
